I have a confession….for the longest time, I’m talking years, I didn’t follow my own design rule. I have said time and time again that you should not have a matching bedroom set, and yet I did. Yikes, it feels even worse to say it out loud. I figured it was about time to make a change (why is it always the primary bedroom that gets the least attention when it comes to furniture and decor!?).
Primary Bedroom Before:
I still loved my nightstands, they were a Midcentury Modern marketplace score years ago and I’ve always wanted an upholstered headboard so I decided to change out the bed. Buying a bed is a big investment and I’m not planning on changing it out anytime soon so I made a list of criteria I wanted. It had to be comfortable to sit up and read, it had to have storage, it had to have upholstered rails on the side that didn’t stick out too far (I do not want to bang my shins on wood in the middle of the night), the fabric had to be washable and a forgiving colour (our giant dogs live in our bed while we’re at work and lay against the sides when they’re kicked out at night) and lastly, the style had to be timeless. I purchase beds for my clients all the time so I know there are so many options but quickly I was able to narrow down to the one that checked off all my boxes and was in my price point - the Cloud Storage Bed from Sundays Furniture.
Once the bed was ordered, I knew I had to update a few other pieces to really get the most impact from changing out such a big piece. The first things I found were these lamps, they’re alabaster which added a nice earthy, organic element. The second thing I did, which was definitely overdue, was new bedding. I always have the best sleep when I’m at a hotel with a duvet, so I have no idea why it took me so long to get one, I even got them for my kids and we all love them! In an ideal world I would have purchased a white cover, but let’s be honest, my dogs would have it looking dirty in a day, so I opted for the white sheets, white coverlet and a khaki coloured linen looking duvet that I like to fold ⅓ the way down for that super fluffy, welcoming look.
Once my bedding arrived, I was able to raid my online store inventory and pull some of my favorite pillows, which I loved, but it still didn’t feel finished, so, a very last minute call, about 1hr before photos were scheduled, I decided to create a gallery wall above the bed. Again, using pieces I had in stock, I quickly created this gallery above the bed and it tied everything together. The beauty & intention behind the items in my online store is that all of the pieces coordinate so you don’t have to question if they’ll work together!
I absolutely love how my bedroom turned out and I can’t believe it took me so long to update these pieces!
