5 Timeless Interior Design Tips

As we all know, so many trends come and go but that isn't always the case. Certain design trends have stood the test of time, transcending eras and styles. Regardless of your preferred style or aesthetic, here are five timeless trends that I always make sure to incorporate in my designs as they will be sure to leave your space with functionality and everlasting beauty.

1. Painting Walls, Doors and Trim the Same Colour

Yes, I said it, painting your walls, trim, and doors the same color can actually create a cohesive and visually appealing look. By varying the finish on each surface, like eggshell for the walls and semi-gloss for the trim and doors, you can add contrast while maintaining harmony.  This approach allows your artwork, decor, and furnishings to take center stage, making it easier to switch things up with evolving design trends. Plus, if you opt for a darker shade, it can introduce a touch of drama while also softening angles and creating a sense of spaciousness in the room. It's a design choice that can truly elevate the aesthetics of your space.

2. Using Medium Oak Floors

Medium oak floors offer the perfect balance between light and dark flooring trends, giving you the best of both worlds. Their versatility makes them a great choice for any design style, whether modern or rustic. Unlike fleeting fashion flooring colors, the hues in this wood flooring are timeless. Additionally, a medium oak floor has the unique ability to complement any decor without overpowering the space. It's a classic choice that I always recommend will stand the test of time!

3. Recessed Lighting

Recessed pot lights are a fantastic choice for lighting up a space! They bring a clean and sophisticated look while offering the flexibility to adjust the mood by putting them on dimmers. If you want to enhance the ambiance further or keep up with trends, you can always add lamps and sconces to your space. These lights also provide excellent coverage when you need focused task lighting, making them a versatile and practical lighting option for any room.

4. Cabinets Extending to Ceiling

Having cabinets that extend to the ceiling not only creates clean lines for a sleek look but also provides ample storage space, allowing you to maximize every inch of your kitchen. Additionally, they can help to reduce the accumulation of dust, making maintenance easier and keeping your space cleaner overall. It's a practical and stylish solution for enhancing both the aesthetics and functionality of your living space!

5. Organic, Earth Tones

Using organic, earth tones as a foundational palette brings authenticity and a grounding feeling to your home. When we talk about earthy tones, we're looking at colors inspired by the beauty of nature - think browns, beiges, greens, terracotta, and warm neutrals like taupe and sand. We all know how peaceful we feel when admiring beautiful landscapes and the nature around us, so this gives us the opportunity to bring that feeling into our home. Fyi.. I am not saying your space has to be monochromatic, this palette just acts as a neutral diving board to then add colours and elements that speak to you.
